Explore Space and Physics with Moon Day 2016 at the Frontiers of Flight Museum

1969 was a year of wonder. Apollo 11 made its perilous journey to land the first men on the moon, and all across America, bright-eyed children watched the progress detailed continuously on all three — count ’em — networks, and wondered, bitterly, when good stuff would come back on TV, like Bewitched or Land of the Giants. If that sounds petty, please understand that between the 1968 political conventions, NASA and Watergate to come, a whole generation of children faced many long years bereft of television entertainment. It was rough, man, rough. But we’re grown up now, and old enough to appreciate the majesty of Apollo 11 and Neil Armstrong’s first step onto the moon.

The Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field is commemorating the mission with Moon Day 2016, a daylong series of educational events that includes a live chat with astronauts orbiting in the space station, physics demonstrations, model rocket-building, a talk by Col. Walt Cunningham, lunar module pilot of Apollo 7 and more. The event takes place 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Museum admission is $10 for adults, with discounts for seniors, students, younger children and families of military service members. Find more information at flightmuseum.com. The museum is at 6911 Lemmon Ave.
